Acceptable Use Policy

A good Acceptable Use Policy will clearly define what types of activities are allowed while using company resources and perhaps more importantly, what activities are prohibited. Downloading unapproved programs should be prohibited, for instance, because of the risk of malware. Likewise, peer-to-peer file sharing sites like uTorrent are known to be full of malware (not to mention they use a large amount of bandwidth and have been associated with copyright infringement). These sites should not be allowed on company network resources for this reason.

The more clearly defined your company AUP, the better. Your computer consultant can help you create a functional AUP and may even offer to train your employees in adherence. You can also find Internet resources that will assist you in making your own AUP.
